Shanghai Daily news

Acclaimed Chinese American actress and director Joan Chen said yesterday in Shanghai that she will look for honesty in films competing for the Asian New Talent Award Competition category at the Eighth Shanghai International Film Festival.
Chen is on the panel of jurors for the award, which was launched at last year's festival.
She said she would emphasize "sincerity and trueness" as the most important factors while evaluating the films.
"Nowadays the Asian society is undergoing big and dynamic social and economic changes, which is also an inspiration for the filmmakers," Chen said at a press conference at the Shanghai Film Art Center. "We expect to see the endless creativity and passion of today's Asian films in this competition."
Director Jia Zhangke is the president of the jury panel.
There are 10 films competing for the award including two Chinese mainland works - "The Story of Xiao Yan" and "Mongolian Ping Pong." The winner will be announced on Saturday and receive a 300,000-yuan (US$36,145) bonus.
