GILLES' WIFE
Synopsis: A working-class family
in the thirties. Elisa, Gilles's wife, takes care of the children and the house,
and spends all day waiting for her husband to come home. Gilles works in the
blast furnace, sometimes at night, sometimes during the day. Victorine, Elisa's
sister, has just started working in a store in town and she comes often to visit
her sister, play with the children and help her around the house. Elisa is
pregnant. And strange ideas come to her mind. Gilles and Victorine, Victorine
and Gilles...But Elisa refuses to believe it. Strange is the mood of a pregnant
woman. One day, her denial turns to certainty, she is sure that Gilles and
Victorine are having an affair. A strange interior combat starts, courage,
silence and self-sacrifice being her only weapons. To regain what she lost, to
become Gilles' wife again.
