Pick of the week

Shanghai Daily news

Looking for a reasonably priced and furnished apartment not too far from the center of town isn¡¯t easy in Shanghai. However, The Four Seasons apartment complex on Dongan Road isn¡¯t a bad start.
It¡¯s only a 10-to-15-minute walk from the Xujiahui or Hengshan Road Metro stations and a little further to Sasha¡¯s up at Dongping Road.
The pick for this week is a two-bedroom apartment that is going for 5,800 yuan (US$717) a month (furnished).
The 110-square-meter apartment has two bathrooms, one of which doubles as a laundry with a new washing machine and small drying area. The whole place was recently renovated yet the five-year-old Four Seasons complex itself doesn¡¯t look a day past it¡¯s age.
Located on the 14th floor, you walk straight into a generously sized living room with dark wood floors and blonde wood features. Off the living room is a large balcony that looks down onto a park owned by the complex.
The park is large ¡ª roughly half a city block ¡ª with well maintained gardens and it is definitely a major drawcard for the Four Seasons complex.
Off to the right of the view is the swimming pool of Fudan University¡¯s medical school and beyond that ¡ª unfortunately ¡ª is a lot of ongoing  construction.
Perhaps one of the most noticeable aspects of the apartment is how well lit it is.
Large windows in every room apart from the kitchen give a relaxing glow to the entire apartment. The bathrooms are small but functional and the main bathroom has a stylish marble basin. Both bedrooms are reasonably large and the master bedroom has its own television and large closet.
The apartment comes with a state-of-the-art entertainment system, complete with a giant flat-screen TV and satellite.
The furniture is new and tasteful with leather couches and Egyptian artworks hanging on the white walls. The kitchen is small and brand new and looks easy to keep clean.
The entrance to the building is well maintained with marble walls and soft lighting. From the foyer you can walk directly out into the garden which gives the eight-building complex a very welcome, open feeling.
The complex lacks other facilities but for the rental and the exceptional garden, one can hardly complain.
Estate Agent Lydia Zheng of Red Dragon Properties told me the owner will lease for a minimum of one year. But considering the furniture, style and feel of the apartment, I don¡¯t think it would be a stretch to commit to spending that much time there.
Red Dragon properties also lease other apartments in the Four Seasons complex and prices vary pending on location, size and quality.

Location: 149 Dongan Rd
Price: 5,800 yuan per month
