Chen Yunlin, director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Communist Party of
China (CPC) Central Committee, had a meeting Monday with a Kuomintang (KMT)
delegation from Taiwan to promote passenger and cargo flights across the Taiwan
Straits.
Chen told the KMT delegation, led by Tseng Yung-chuan, director of the KMT's
central policy committee, that the mainland is willing to continue thinking over
the demands and practical interests of Taiwan people and adopt flexible,
pragmatic and efficient methods to help achieve direct flights across the
straits as early as possible.
"For a long time, we have showed maximal sincerity and kindness in an effort
to promote cross-straits exchanges," said Chen, noting that recently, the
mainland has taken a series of substantial and effective measures for the goal
of achieving peace and stability across the straits, which has been highly
praised by Taiwan people and drawn wide attention and appreciation from the
international community.
Chen cited President Hu Jintao's call for normalizing cross-straits passenger
flights like the ones conducted during the Spring Festival this year, and
holding unofficial talks on cargo flights.
The two sides should also work together to materialize the achievements on
the development of the cross-straits relations during the talks between leaders
of the CPC, the KMT and the People First Party, he said.
