A group of 65
accountants became the first masters of accounting students in the city last
Friday, when Fudan University kicked off classes in the new course. The
students, all of whom have several years experience working as accounts, will
spend two and a half years studying part-time, either on the weekend or during
the evening. The State Council officially approved the opening of master
degree programs for accounting last year and more than 3,600 accountants across
the country have taken entrance exams, which were set up by individual
universities. Fudan's MPAcc course is unique among all of the masters
programs offered in China as it is the only one allowing students to major in
embezzlement auditing and legal-affairs accounting. Fudan officials said 111
students sat the entrance exam to enter the course. The 65 students enrolled in
the program have each worked as accountants for 7.4 years on average. About
69 percent of the students work in the manufacturing industry while 31 percent
are employed in the financial, insurance and consulting fields. The program
costs 70,000 yuan (US$8,434), the school said.
