"Imparting knowledge and
cultivating people have been the essence of our college," commented Yuan
zhigang, dean of the College of Economics of Fudan University. "We have many
graduates who are very talented. Wu Jinglian is one of them." On the calendar
of the college, which was officially published a few days ago, we can see the
names of many famous scholars and successful business persons, names which
receive frequent media exposure nowadays. In 1918, the first domestic
cooperative store appeared on the campus of the university, followed by the
first cooperative student dining room in China. In 1919, under the suggestion
of Prof. Xue Xianzhou from the economics college, the university opened a
pioneer credit union, which later became the base for students from the college
to gain practical experience. According to Prof. Yuan, the college is now
seeking the return of overseas scholars to further improve their education
quality. He also revealed their detailed plan: the College will invest over 1
million yuan (US$120 919) every year to invite eight top overseas professors to
hold lectures in Fudan, and four masters per month, each accompanied by two
young assistants.
