1905 Based upon western church-controlled Aurora University,
Ma Xiangbo (1840-1939) established the university, which was initially named
Fudan Public School.
1917 Fudan Public School opened undergraduate program with
its name changed to Fudan University.
1918 President Li
Denghui raised 150,000 yuan to buy a land in Jiangwan, where Fudan is now
located.
1937 Shanghai was occupied by the Japanese,
forcing Fudan to move its faculty and students to Chongqing City.
1946 Fudan officially moved back to resume at its Jiangwan
campus.
1949 Fudan was taken over by the Chinese People¡¯s Liberation
Army Shanghai Military Control Committee, marking a brand-new start of the
university.
1952 College adjustment in the whole country. Fudan joined
with more than 10 universities in East China in Arts and Science departments.
1977 Fudan professor Su Buqing (1902-2003), together
with other scholars, persuaded the country to resume the college recruitment
system destroyed by the ¡°cultural revolution (1966-76).¡±
1993 Fudan was listed as one of the key universities
in the ¡°211 project¡±, which means that the country try to build up 100 key
domestic universities in the 21st century.
2000 Fudan merged with the Shanghai Medical
University.
2005 Fudan celebrated its 100th anniversary. More than
3,000 freshmen, including 300 foreign students, started their study at the newly
established Fudan College, which is the only college for freshmen¡¯s general
education unbounded by majors.
