New Year's gala to be innovative
26/1/2006 8:30

A song written by migrant workers will make its TV premiere during the "innovative" Spring Festival gala performance to be broadcast on Saturday.
"This is the first time migrant workers have stepped onto the national stage and presented their own artistic creation," said Liu Zhongjun, a senior official with the Ministry of Culture and also chief producer of the performance.
He said inviting migrant workers to the performance means everyone has an equal chance to show their talent, thus helping create a harmonious society.
Young migrant worker Sun Heng and his friends will sing a song called "People on the Road."
They will perform alongside well-known singers. They will also sing other songs to express their feelings for their hometown, as well as their love for relatives and friends.
Wen Zhongjia, musical director of the performance, said, "People's strong feelings for the motherland will be highlighted. The country needs this type of patriotic emotion."
Liu said the performance will be innovative. Singers from different minority groups will also be invited to perform. Street dancing and skateboarding - popular with young people - will be staged along with Chinese acrobatics. Among a dozen songs, two have been co-written by Culture Minister Sun Jiazheng and Vice Culture Minister Chen Xiaoguang.
According to Liu, artists will try new ideas. They include ballet dancers accompanying Chinese folk music and Kunqu opera artists performing a song in poetic language.
