Leaders to attend Wang funeral

Funeral services for Wang Daohan, the Chinese mainland's top envoy on Taiwan affairs, is scheduled for 10am tomorrow at the Longhua funeral home in Shanghai.

Top officials from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China are expected to be present.

In accordance with the wishes of Wang's family, relatives of Koo Chen-fu, the late president of the Taiwan-based Strait Exchange Foundation, will also attend the funeral.

Other attendees include SEF officials who participated in groundbreaking talks between Wang and Koo and representatives of Taiwan's Kuomintang Party, the People First Party, New Party and the Alliance for the Reunification of China.

Some of Wang's friends from Taiwan, Taiwan business people who have invested in the mainland and heads of Taiwan enterprise associations on the mainland will also be on hand.

Wang's family said on Monday that in accordance with the late envoy's wishes, the funeral would be a simple affair and they would invite only a small number of Wang's friends and representatives of organizations he was involved with.

Wang died in Shanghai last Saturday at age 90.

He was the first president of the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait, which was founded in 1991.

The native of Jiashan in east China's Anhui Province also served as secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, mayor and vice mayor of Shanghai and adviser to the Shanghai government.
