China to curb corruption in military
3/3/2006 16:50
China's military authority on Friday ordered the country's servicemen to
study a recent circular on curbing corruption within the military and
disciplining corrupt army officials. The circular, released by the Central
Military Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC), provided crucial
guidelines to create a clean and honest army now and in the future, said a
source with the General Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation
Army. "It is very important for the army to retain its characteristics and
nature as a people's army. Heading off corruption will lay a solid political and
disciplinary foundation for the army to perform its tasks in the new century,"
the source said. The department requires each army unit to draw up schemes to
curb corruption. Military disciplinary officials were also asked to enhance
graft surveillance and to resolve any internal conflicts.
