Research lies to be punished
8/3/2006 9:59

Academic falsification will be severely punished, said Minister of Science and Technology Xu Guanhua.
China's academic circles were shocked by the scandal in the Republic of Korea concerning stem cell researcher Hwang Woo-suk and the falsification of reports.
As it stresses the importance of scientific and technological innovation, China wants to ensure that its science and research are of highest quality and unimpeachable.
"We will severely deal with any case of academic falsification whenever it is discovered," said Xu, after attending a discussion held by the delegation of Jiangsu Province.
China is drafting and improving regulations regarding scientific and technological evaluation and rewards. It seeks to avoid anything like the South Korean scandal.
That furor added fuel to a fierce debate over the effectiveness of China's so-called science police, with Fang Zhouzi the most famous figure. Fang runs a Website exposing scientific plagiarism and pseudoscience.
To encourage innovations, China has published 60 policies and measures.
