The official day marking the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China
is fast approaching. And the Special Administrative region is already in a
festival mood. Preparations are well underway for the many celebrations taking
place on July 1st.
Hong Kong's downtown Time Square has been transformed into a sea of red with
thousands of flags. Designers say these life-size models represent the residents
of Hong Kong as they salute the motherland.
Time Square PR manager, said, "We all feel very happy and excited for the
10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China. We want the square to take on a
festival look. That's why we chose red, a color that conveys the happiness of
Chinese people."
Colorful flags and banners are in every major Hong Kong street. Many shopping
centers and amusement parks are playing theme songs specially composed for the
anniversary.
HK resident said, "I'm very, very happy. It's already ten years."
HK resident said, "I'm really excited for the anniversary. A lot of programs
are in store for the big day."
When night-time falls, the neon lights decorating Hong Kong's high rise
buildings form huge banners to remind the locals of a very special anniversary
celebration.
