Peres meets with China's Olympic officials

Israeli President Shimon Peres said yesterday that Israel would deepen the cooperation with China in many fields ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympic games.

Peres made the remarks during a meeting with the visiting president of the Chinese Olympic Committee Liu Peng in his residence in Jerusalem.

"Your coming wins the friendship of the Israelis," said Peres.

The president praised that China has made great efforts in preparing for the Olympic games, which encouraged all the other nations in the world. He expressed his hope that the mutual relationship between Israel and China could be further developed in the future.

Liu Peng said China would like to hold a high-standard Olympic Games that will meet the requirement of the world. He emphasized that the two nations should boost their cooperation in sports as well as other fields.

Liu Peng also sent his wish to Peres that the Israeli athletes would make good achievements in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
