Senior officials from some foreign countries have expressed confidence
that China will hold the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games successfully. Abdel Azim
Wazir, governor of Egypt's Cairo province, told Xinhua yesterday that he is very
glad that the Olympic Games will be held in China, a country with great ancient
civilization. He believes that the Beijing Olympics will be a complete
success. Wazir condemned the sabotage activities against the torch relay,
saying that sports is an event of peace aimed to bring peace to all countries in
the world. Members of the Cameroon-China Friendship Group in the Cameroonian
parliament also expressed their "firm" belief that China will successfully hold
the Olympic Games and hoped that athletes of Cameroon and China will do an
excellent job. The Olympic Games is a grand sports gathering and the people
of Cameroon eagerly look forward to the opening of the Beijing Olympics, they
said when meeting with Chinese ambassador to Cameroon Huang Changqing on
Wednesday. Uruguayan Foreign Ministry issued a communique Wednesday to
reiterate the country's support for the Beijing Olympic Games. The Olympics
is the most important sports event in the world and it will go beyond the
borders and promote the spirit of friendship of mankind, the communique
said.
