Estonian Deputy Parliamentary Speaker Kristiina Ojuland said yesterday
that hosting the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will further boost China's
development and make it a more open and prosperous country, according to reports
reaching in Riga from the Estonian capital Tallinn. Hosting the Olympics will
showcase China to the whole world, which the Chinese deserve to be proud of,
Ojuland said while meeting with a visiting Chinese delegation headed by Chen
Haosu, president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign
Countries. She pointed out that Estonia maintains a cordial relationship with
China, with more and more Estonian entrepreneurs wishing to cooperate with China
in recent years. Ojuland also welcomed Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in her
country. For his part, Chen said China will continue to stick to its reform
and opening-up policy, and is ready to develop friendly cooperative relations
with Estonia on different levels in various fields. Also yesterday, the
Chinese delegation met Estonian Olympic Committee President Mart Siimann who
expressed his opposition to linking sports with politics. Estonia will send
its largest ever sports delegation to the Beijing Games and is confident of
achieving good results in disciplines where it enjoys an advantage, Siimann
said.
