Olympic official says torch relay successful

An official ceremony was held on the Stage 88 in the Commonwealth Park
after the torch relay finished, with Australian Olympic Committee President John
Coates thanking torch bearers, spectators, the ACT government, police and
Beijing Olympic officials.
"When I welcomed the flame yesterday, I said how
proud I was to be welcoming it on behalf of the Australian Olympic Committee to
our shores on the fourth occasion," Coates said.
He said the torch relay was
successful and peaceful even though there was a large number of spectators
watching and cheering the relay.
"I will simply conclude now by saying how
proud I am to be Australian. Thank you," Caotes said at the finishing
ceremony.
