President of the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge visited
Xinhua News Agency's newsroom at the Main Press Center (MPC) of the Beijing
Games today. Rogge praised Xinhua and its website for the Olympic coverage.
"Look at the website of Xinhua, you see the latest news, you see the gold
medals, you can see all the excitement of the Olympic Games." The IOC
president said he was deeply impressed with Xinhua's Olympic coverage in terms
of quantity as well as diversity, and expressed thanks for Xinhua's
efforts. On behalf of Xinhua's management, deputy editor-in-chief Peng Shujie
thanked Rogge for his support and promised quality press services for worldwide
media during their Games coverage. The IOC appointed Xinhua as the host news
agency and the national Olympic photo pool of the Beijing Olympic Games in
2006. Xinhua has sent a 284-strong team to cover the Games. Its
610-square-meter newsroom on the second floor of the MPC provides text, photo,
video and audio, mobile text message and website coverage of the Games mainly in
Chinese and English. As China's state news agency, Xinhua broadcasts 24 hours
a day in seven languages including Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish,
Arabic and Portugal.
