Beijing airport bracing for passenger peak after Olympics
26/8/2008 9:55

Beijing Capital International Airport saw peak traffic volume yesterday as many Olympic delegations left the Chinese capital, the airport authority said.

General manager Dong Zhiyi said the airport would handle 267 Olympics-related departure flights, carrying 11,263 members of Olympic delegations from the United States, Great Britain, Russia, Poland and Malaysia, yesterday.

A total of 32,596 passengers would leave Beijing throughout the day, more than double usual figure, he said.

Dong said about 3,200 passengers of various Olympic delegations would leave the airport on more than 380 flights on Tuesday.

As the Olympic delegations were leaving Beijing, the airport was preparing to receive athletes to the Sept. 6-17 Paralympics.

A five-day training course on issues such as etiquette and security for 200 volunteers for the Paralympics had begun at the airport on Aug. 23.
