New Party chief appointed for Liaoning

Zhang Wenyue has replaced Li Keqiang as Party chief of the Liaoning Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, Xinhua news agency reported today.

Li was elected a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee at the first plenary session of the 17th CPC Central Committee last week.

Zhang, born in October 1944 in southeast China's Fujian Province, was elected a member of the 17th Central Committee of the CPC at the 17th CPC National Congress on October 21.

Zhang has served as the governor of northeast China's Liaoning since February 2004.
