Beijing should erect a monument to honor Olympic volunteers, said a deputy to
the National People's Congress yesterday.
"Besides the sports facilities, the Beijing Olympic Games should also leave
some other tangible heritage for the nation," said Zhou Hongyu, a legislator
from the central province of Hubei.
"Volunteers show love and care," he said. "This is what China needs in
building a harmonious society."
Erection of a monument would encourage more Chinese people to sign up as
volunteers, said Zhou.
