Strong earthquake jolts southwest China
The earthquake measuring to 8.0 from 7.8 on the Richter scale jolted Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province in southwest China at 2:28 pm on May 12 and affected eight provinces and municipality including Sichuan, Gansu, Shaanxi, Chongqing, Yunnan, Shanxi, Guizhou and Hubei.

Sichuan Province armed police officers work yesterday to dismantle endangered houses in Panzhihua City. An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale hit Sichuan last Saturday, causing fatalities and injuries and damaging thousands of houses in the area.¡ªXinhua
