Q: I'm the legal representative of a wholly foreign-owned company, whose invested capial amounts to US$10 million. Can I apply for a Green Card?
A: Those who make a direct investment of at least US$2 million can apply for permanent resident status. Although the invested capital of your company meets the demand, you are not qualified since you are not the company's investor.

Q: As the vice general manager of a local company, I've worked in Shanghai for nine years and spend most of my time here. Am I qualified for a Green Card? 
A: High-level foreign personnel must meet the following requirements to get permanent resident rights. They must have held the current posts for at least four years and have spent an accumulative total of at least three years living here. They must work in either high-tech corporations or other sectors where foreigners are encouraged to invest. If your company meets these demand and you have held your current post for enough years, you can apply for a card.

Q: I'm a Shanghai native and my husband is German. We've been married for ten years. My husband began work in Shanghai last year. Can my husband apply for the Green Card?
A: To get a card, your husband must be married to you for at least five years and live in China for at least five years. Since your husband started to reside in China last year, he is not qualified.

Q: I'm a Chinese citizen. My Japanese husband works in Shanghai now. I want to send my son to study here. Can he get a Green Card?
A: Children who come to China to be with their families must each first possess a foreign citizenship. If your son has Japan citizenship, he can apply for a permanent residence permit.

Q: I'm a Chinese-American and am now 72 years old. Since my children in the US are unable to look afer me, I want to settle in Shanghai to be with my daughter. Am I qualified for a Green Card?
A: Those elderly people who have no near relations abroad and have lived in China for at least five years can apply for a card. Since you have children abroad, you'are not qualified.      กก
