China is pursuing a path of peaceful development, Premier Wen Jiabao said
yesterday at the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue in
Islamabad, Pakistan. "No matter how the international climate might change,
the Chinese people will always be a trustworthy and reliable partner for Asian
people," he said. Wen said China will continue to concentrate on addressing
domestic concerns while broadening economic cooperation with other Asian
countries. China supports the role of Asia-based cooperation mechanisms and
works hard to enhance political trust, deepen trade and economic cooperation,
cultural exchanges and security dialogue with other Asian countries, he
said. China will continue to uphold justice, champion fairness and protect
the rights and interests of developing countries, said Wen. He said China
wishes to join the rest of Asia in welcoming the participation of all countries
and organizations in the world in the region's development. On Tuesday
evening, China and Pakistan signed a friendship treaty that reflects on the
sound bilateral relations between the two countries over the past 50 years and
outlines the future. The Pakistan stop is the first leg of Wen's eight-day
visit to South Asia, which will also take him to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and
India. He held talks with Pakistan's Premier Shaukat Aziz soon after he arrived
in the capital on Tuesday afternoon. Wen told Aziz that China and Pakistan
have always supported and understood each other. Furthering the relationship is
the common task of the two countries, he added. Yesterday, China and Pakistan
declared to start the process of negotiation of building up a free trade area,
and signed an agreement on early-harvest plan, the first step towards
FTA. Wen called upon the Pakistani and Chinese entrepreneurs to strengthen
cooperation and make common progress, pledging the two governments will create
condition for the business circle to build up a mechanism of
exchanges.
