Taiwan authorities urged not to block dialogues
24/4/2005 15:11

Chinese top political advisor has urged the Taiwan authorities not to impede the resumption of the cross-Strait dialogues.

Jia Qinglin made this call when meeting with Vincent C. Siew, chairman of the Taiwan-based Cross-Strait Market Foundation, on the sidelines of the Boao Forum for Asia in China's southernmost Hainan Province.

The top advisor said the mainland is committed to resuming cross-Strait dialogue based on 'one-China' principle and promoting exchange with all Taiwan political parties, organizations or representatives who uphold the '1992 Consensus'.

He also reaffirmed the importance of sound cross-Straits relations for economic exchanges and cooperation.

Siew believed Taiwan and the mainland could continue to strengthen their economic and trade cooperation while carrying out political exchanges in a bid to deepen mutual understanding.
