Taiwan's main opposition party leader Lien Chan has visited Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum in Nanjing, paying respects to the founder of Kuomintang.

Nanjing, the first leg of Lien Chan's visit, was once the capital of the Kuomintang regime.

Lien Chan will also visit the cities of Beijing, Xi'an and Shanghai.

The Kuomintang, China's ruling party from late 1920s to 1940s, left the Chinese mainland for the island province of Taiwan in 1949 when it lost a civil war.
