Fujian Province: Rainstorms have killed 12 people, with five
others still missing. Disasters have affected 1.59 million people in 34 counties
in North Fujian.
Guangxi Province: Torrential rain and the ensuing floods
have claimed seven lives with one person still missing. The water levels of such
main rivers as the Qianjiang, the Xunjiang and the Xijiang have exceeded warning
levels. Nearly 1.52 million people have been affected. Direct economic losses
are estimated at 369 million yuan (US$44.5 million).
Guangdong Province: The region which the Xijiang River flows
across has been inundated by the biggest flood in 20 years. Torrential rain
submerged the downtown areas of Guangzhou yesterday. Since the water level in
some areas was waist-deep, the traffic in Guangzhou was halted.
Jiangxi Province: According to incomplete statistics, more
than 1.7 million people in 39 counties were affected. Several railways and
highways were closed. Water conservation facilities were destroyed.
Zhejiang Province: Rainstorms have struck central and south
Zhejiang in the past few days. 200,000 people have been affected.
