Taiwan typhoon

Typhoon Haitang began dumping rain in eastern Taiwan yesterday as authorities shut down a domestic airport and fishermen sought shelter at harbors. As of late yesterday afternoon, Haitang was centered in the Pacific Ocean 300 kilometers east of Taiwan. It was moving toward northeastern Taiwan at a speed of 17 kilometers per hour, packing sustained winds of 190 kilometers per hour. The airport in eastern Hualien was shut down.
