The Chairman of the New Party in Taiwan said his delegation's
arrival in Beijing yesterday was the most important part of their trip to the
mainland.
"It is the most important leg that will clinch the point in our
trip," said Yok Mu-ming.
The delegation was greeted at the Beijing Capital
International Airport by Chen Yunlin, director of the Taiwan Work Office of the
Communist Party of China Central Committee, Li Bingcai, the Taiwan Work Office's
deputy director and Sun Zhengcai, standing committee member and secretary
general of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC.
The delegation will be
in Beijing for three days and leave for Taipei on Wednesday.
During their
stay in Beijing, talks, discussions and lectures will be held on improving
cross-strait relations.
They also will promote exchanges between the two
sides and protect the interests of compatriots from both the mainland and Taiwan
Province.
The delegation will also visit historical sites including the Lugou
Bridge and the Memorial Hall of the War of Resistance Against Japanese
Aggression.
The delegation arrived in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong
Province, on July 6 to begin the four-city mainland trip.
The theme of the
trip was to commemorate the 60th anniversary of China's victory in the war
against Japanese aggression during World War II.
It paid homage to the
Huanghuagang 72 Martyrs' Cemetery in Guangzhou, visited the Mausoleum of Dr Sun
Yat-sen in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province and offered condolences to
victims of the Nanjing Massacre at the Memorial Hall of Compatriots Murdered in
Nanjing.
During their stay in Dalian, a port city in Liaoning Province, Yok
and his entourage visited more historical sites.
He said as members of the
Chinese nation, the delegation is making this trip to recall the past, treasure
the present and create a better future.
"In the past, our country was
constantly bullied by foreign powers and our compatriots were cruelly killed
because the country was divided," he said.
"We must not forget this part of
history. Now the Chinese people both on the mainland and in Taiwan should be
united."
Yok also met with business people from Taiwan at a forum. The
delegation visited urban facilities, harbors and factories in Dalian.
The
delegation and Taiwan businessmen in Dalian called for the Taiwan authorities to
remove barriers to "three direct links" across the Taiwan Strait during their
meeting on Saturday.
"The Taiwan authorities have been obstructing the 'three
direct links' because the current leaders want to cut off ties across the
Strait," said Yok during the meeting with 38 Taiwan
businessmen.
