Top advisor meets New Party delegation

China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin, says the mainland is ready to cooperate with any body or people in Taiwan who oppose Taiwan independence.

During a meeting in Beijing with the visiting delegation from the New Party, Jia Qinglin reaffirmed the importance of joint efforts by people from the mainland and Taiwan against Taiwan separatist attempts.

He also hailed the New Party's stance for China's peaceful reunification and its commitment to ensure Taiwan people's interests.

New Party Chairman Yok Mu-ming said separatist activities would hurt the Chinese nation and cross-Strait peace.

Earlier, mainland's top official for Taiwan affairs, Chen Yunlin said the mainland was ready to talk with the New Party on cross-Strait economic and cultural cooperation and better protection of Taiwan business people's interests in the mainland.

Beijing is the last leg of the New Party's eight-day mainland tour, which has already taken the 30-member delegation to Guangzhou, Nanjing and Dalian.

In a related development, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who has just concluded her visit to China, said the US welcomes contact between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.

She also reiterated Washington's adherence to the one China policy and the three joint communiqu¨¦s governing US-China relations.
