President Hu arrives in Mexico City for state visit

Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in Mexico City Sunday for a state visit
to further expand cooperation between China and MexiCo. During his visit,
President Hu will exchange views with his Mexican counterpart Vicente Fox and
other Mexican leaders on bilateral relations and international and regional
issues. The two countries are also expected to sign a number of cooperation
documents during the visit. In a written statement delivered upon his arrival
at the airport, Hu said China and Mexico are both big developing countries and
share the common task of promoting economic and social development. He said
since the two countries forged diplomatic ties, bilateral cooperation in various
fields are fruitful, and Mexico has become China's important cooperative partner
in Latin America. "To further deepen and enrich bilateral strategic
partnership serves the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two
peoples, and is conducive to promoting world peace and development, " said
Hu. He said he is convinced that this visit will further enhance the
friendship between the two peoples and push forward the further development of
Sino-Mexican strategic partnership. Since the two countries established
diplomatic relations 33 years ago, bilateral relationship has developed smoothly
and cooperation has yielded fruitful results in various sectors. Mexico has
become China's second largest trade partner in Latin America after Brazil.
Bilateral trade exceeded US$7 billion in 2004, 44 percent higher than the
previous year, and China's investment in Mexico rose to nearly US$200
million. Hu flew in from Canada after a state visit. Mexico is the second
leg of Hu's north American tour. He will also attend the UN summit scheduled
for Sept. 14-16 in New York and visit Vancouver of Canada on the way back
Beijing.
