Three female track and field athletes have tested positive for the banned
19-norandrosterone, Chinese Sports authorities confirmed on Thursday.
Wang Lina and Niu Nana from Chongqing, southwest of China, tested positive in
the out-of-competition tests on August 27. Sun Hongfeng from Liaoning Province
tested positive for the same substance on September 12.
According to a statement by the China State Sports General Administration,
both Wang and Niu have been disqualified for the coming tenth National Games,
and the whole track and field squad of Chongqing, both men and women, have also
been disqualified for the Games, to be held in Jiangsu province from October 12
to 23. The other athletes can still take part in the Games as individuals.
Other punishment measures will be carried out by the Chinese Track and Field
Association against the concerned athletes, coaches and officials as well as
their respective organizations, the statement said.
"Doping offense not only hurts athletes' physical and mental health, but also
breaches the spirit of fair play," said the statement.
"China State Sports General Administration always adheres to the strict
anti-doping policy, namely severe warning, strict test and harsh penalty.
There will be zero tolerance toward any doping offenses," said the statement.
