Feng Jing and Liang Fuliang, two top gymnasts in China without chance to
compete in Athens Olympics, helped Guangdong defend their men's team title atthe
10th National Games in Nanjing on Monday.
The star-studded Guangdong clinched the gold with a score of 227.340, edging
out hosts Jiangsu by merely 0.317.
The two gymnastics giants in China had a very-close duel, taking the first
place in turns throughout the competition. The duel also saw a tit-for-tat
between four national team members: Liang Fuliang and Feng Jing for Guangdong,
and Lvbo and Huangxu for Jiangsu.
They all had super displays on the apparatus, making the final results a
hard-to-guess before the last rotation, when Guangdong stood at 189.238 points
and Jiangsu at 188.989.
"I am satisfied with the shows of all my team mates, and they are in their
best throughout the competition," said Huang Xu, who scored 9.884 on rings and
9.850 on horizontal bar, after the competition.
The Chinese Army team, spearheaded by "pommel king" Xiao Qin, had stable
performances throughout the rounds and secured its holdon the third place
through the race.
The absence of world champion Li Xiaopeng, who suffered new feet injures in
the qualifications, seemed to deal a heavy blow tothe Hunan squad, who fixed in
the last place in the final.
A total of eight teams competed in men's team final.
