Asian Champion Feng Yong awarded Henan its first cycling gold, winning the
men's 1- kilometer time trial at the 10th Chinese National Games in Nanjing ,
East China on Thursday. Feng demonstrated his speed on the track to collect
the gold in one minute and three seconds. "I am satisfied with the results
today. I should thank my coach, " said Feng, who just started training three
years ago. Yan Feng, coach of Henan team, attributed the success to
scientific training and practice. "I am not a professional coach. This is the
first time for me to guide a team in big games. I felt happy about the results,"
said Yan. Han Tao of Tianjin finished in 1:04.688 for the silver, while the
bronze went to defending champion Ma Yajun of Henan in 1:03. 741. "I was
happy to win the bronze," said Ma, who won the gold at the ninth Games four
years ago. Ma hopes to become a professional coach after the National Games,
despite the fact that the men's 1-kilometer time trial has been eliminated from
the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. "I love cycling. No matter what happened, I
will keep on doing the thing I loved," added Ma. Local favorite Fu Liang of
Jiangsu finished fourth in 1:05.666.
