Beijing beats Guangdong at table tennis team event

Top title contender Beijing saw off Guangdong 3-1 in the women's team event in Wuxi , East China on Thursday, sending Hong Kong into the second phase of the table tennis team event of the National Games.
World top paddler Zhang Yining scored two points, beating Guangdong's Cao Xingni and Liu Shiwen, although world No. 5 Guo Yan lost to Cao on the second outing.
Hong Kong, who won the title at the Asian Championships last month in South Korea, finished second in Group A with a 3-0 victory over Guangxi.
Liaoning edged off Tianjin 3-1 to finish atop in Group D when both have booked berths in the quarter-finals before Thursday's match-ups.
Both Shandong and Jiangsu collected five points in Group C following Shandong's 3-0 win over Jiangsu, but Shandong grabbed the first place with games-winning difference.
Heilongjiang failed to advance into the top eight with a 3-0 loss to bottom team Jiangxi, squardering its brave 3-2 win over Heilongjiang on Wednesday.
In Group B, Hebei defeated Hubei 3-0 to take the No.1 placing, while Hubei also advanced.
The quarter-final will start on Thursday night when Beijing takes on Jiangsu, Hubei faces Liaoning, Shandong meets Hong Kong and Tianjin vies Hebei.
