Guangdong and Jiangxi won two gold medals respectively to become the biggest winners on the last day of the rowing tournament of the 10th Chinese National Games in Nanjing , East China on Friday.
Jiangxi eased to the victories in the women's single sculls and women's quadruple sculls, increasing their gold medals tally to three after all these rowing events.
Guangdong produced high-calibre performance in the men's quadruple sculls, beating Shanghai and Shaanxi for the title.
In the men's eight, the final rowing discipline, Guangdong, the traditional rowing powerhouse, trailed tightly their strong rivals from the very beginning before emulating Shaanxi and Henan in the last stages to win.
Guangdong also levelled their own rowing record set at the 9th National Games when they notched a total of four golds.
"You can say that we snatched the gold from Henan, because they are actually stronger than us. It's really not easy to surpass our own aim under such big pressure in the heated competition. We are very satisfied," said a Guangdong coach after the men's eight match.
Hebei, Zhejiang, Liaoning and Shanghai split the other four golds. Hebei won men's single sculls and Zhejiang took gold in women's lightweight four sculls. Liaoning triumphed in men's lightweight coxless four while Shanghai finished first in women's eight.
