Li Xunyan takes women's running target gold

Unknown Fujian shooter Li Xueyan came to fame suddenly on Friday after she won the National Game's women's running target final.

Li Xueyan, who tied with Beijing's Zhang Yi at 388 points afterthe qualification round, shot badly in the final, trailing Zhang by 3.2 points with first three shots.

"I made a good result in the qualification round as my personalbest was only 386 points."said Li, "However, I did not well in thefinal."

As Li looked set to the silver medal in the National Game, which is her best result in the national competitions, the 21-year-old burst out in the last three shots and was thus awarded the gold medal.

Li, who shot 10.6, 10.2 and 10.0 in her last three shots, bagged the gold with a total score of 486.4 points, only 0.1 points more than Zhang.

Qinghai's Guo Chanjun listed third with 483.4 points.

"I am luck today." said Li, "this is my best result in my wholeshooting career. I never thought about winning a gold medal for Fujian in the National Games.

"I thought the title would go to Xu Xuan as she is the world record holder right now." said Li.

Xu Xuan, who set the world record of 391 points in Lahti World Cup in 2002, entered the final with 383 points but failed to take a medal as she only managed 478.1 points and ranked sixth among six finallists.
