Hu Jun picked up Anhui's first shooting gold medal at the 10th National
Games, while Zhang Bo also shot down Shaanxi's first title here on Sunday.
Hu, ranked fourth after the qualification round, scored a total of 484.7
points to take the women's 10m air pistol title.
Zhang came from behind in the final to win the men's double trap event.
"The title is only a step forward for me," said Hu, the silver medalist of
the event at the last National Games in 2001.
"My ultimate goal is to win the gold medal in Beijing 2008 Olympic Game," he
added.
Sichuan's Yang Jing took silver with 484.5, followed by Sun Rongli from
Chinese Army team on 483.9 points.
Wang Yifu, head coach of the national shooting team, said that the standard
of the women's air pistol was not good enough.
"Many big names didn't show their normal form while no young players beat
their expectations," said Wang, a two-time Olympic gold medalist.
Zhang, who finished third in the qualification round with 135 hits, shot 48
hits in the 50-hit final.
Hu Binyuan from Shanghai claimed the silver with a total of 181hits. Luo
Ke'er of Hunan beat Wang Zheng from Jiangsu 4-3 in the shoot-off to take the
bronze, 179.
In the women's 50m rifle 3x20 event, teenage Xiong Meili was crowned the
champion with a total of 698.7 points.
The 19-year-old edged Shi Dan of Liaoning into second place with 685.2, while
Zheng Feng of host Jiangsu was third on 684.7 points.
