Yang Yu clocked a time of 1 minute 57.86 seconds to take the third gold for
Zhejiang in women's 200m freestyle at the 10th National Games on Sunday.
Yang, 20, who finished third in women's 200m freestyle at Barcelona world
championship, powered forward in the last lap to clinch the gold.
It was Zhejiang's third gold following the men's 400m individual medley and
men's 4x100m freestyle relay.
"I have found my best form in the race and the victory helps me build up my
confidence," said Yang Yu."I have been aiming for the 2008 Beijing Olympics."
The victory meant more to Yang who had already won five silver medals in the
last two National Games.
"I had been trying to break the jinx of being long-time runner-up and finally
got the reward today,"said Yang.
"I didnot take lead in the first half, but that's just my tactics. Cheers
from my fans gave me power too,"she added.
Pang Jiaying from Shanghai finished second in 1:57.95 with Pang's teammate
Zhu Yingwen third in 1:58.32.
"I had my best swim today and the result is out of my expectation,"said Pang.
Pang's teammate Zhu, 24, who have been in three National Games, expressed her
doubt on her participation in the Beijing Olympics.
"I am not sure whether I will swim till the Beijing Olympics. It depends on
my physical conditions. I am not young any more and have sustained a lot of
injuries," said Zhu.
