Olympic champion Xing Huina once again proved her dominance in women's 10,000
meters by winning gold medal at the 10th National Games.
The Olympic champion beat China's only other big name Sun Yingjie to claim
the gold medal.
Xing, from Shandong, clocked 31 minutes and 0.73 seconds to win the title,
while the 26-year-old Sun, playing for the Railway Sports Association, settled
for a silver in 31:03.90, and Jiangsu's Zhou Chunxiu finished third with further
5.13 second behind.
Sun, who clinched the women's marathon gold medal of the National Games after
winning her third consecutive title on Sunday in the 2005 Beijing International
Marathon with a time of 2:21:01, broke away from the main group in the middle of
the race while Xing and Zhou had been following her all the time.
With 12 laps to go, the home runner Zhou took over the lead from Sun, but she
was again beaten to the third after Sun rushed out at the fourth-to-last lap.
Sun then granted the final win to Xing, who finally took the NG title with
the very tactics being used last year in Athens where Xing won the Olympic gold
of women's 10,000m in 30:24.36.
