18/10/2005 10:43

Chinese famous archer Lin Sang, silver medalist at the Athens Olympics, suffered stunning elimination from the last 16 of the women's individual archery event at the National Games yesterday.

As a heroine during the Athens Olympics when she helped China to win a team silver medal, Lin Sang has been one of the title favorite at the National Games. However, the pain on her shoulder affected her seriously and led to her failure.

"Her shoulder injury is the main reason for the bad results," said Lin's coach Wang Biyao for the Fujian team.

Lin tried her best to face the big challenge from Jiangsu archer Zhang Yunlu, only to find her efforts in vain after gaining 157 points out of 18 arrows. Her rival get two more points to exclude Lin from the last 16.

Lin Sang's Olympic teammates He Ying and Zhang Juanjuan both qualified for the next stage. He Ying attained the same points with Lin Sang, but the outcome is quite different as the Jilin archer beat another Jiangsu rival Dai Wei by merely two points to advance. Zhang Juanjuan defeated Hubei archer Shen Yin with 161-150.

Zhang Nina of Shandong and Guo Dan of Liaoning produced the most wonderful play this afternoon. Zhang got 167 points, while Guo grabbed a highest 169 points to qualify for the top 16.
