Shandong province topped the gold medal standing at the 10th National Games
shooting on Monday as Tan Zongliang won the men's 10m air pistol title with an
excellent performance in the final.
Tang, the title holder at the 7th National Games, scored a total of 685.4
points to claim the third shooting gold medal for Shandong.
"The last time I won the event was in 1993. " said Tang, "I have been waiting
for the title for 12 years."
Tang co-led the eight finalists at 586 points with Shi Xinglong from
Liaoning, but fell down to the third place after the third shot in the final.
However, Tang, sixth placer in the Athens Olympics in 2004, climbed to top
after the ninth shot and claimed the title with 685.4.
"After so many success and failure since 1993, I have been matured enough to
keep a steady performance in the final," said Tang.
The final also saw the three-person tie after 10 shots as Shi Xinglong, Wang
Biao and Zhang Tian all scored 685.3 points.
Shi Xinglong of Liaoning scored 10.6 points in the shoot-off to take the
silver medal and Wang Biao, from Beijing, finished third with 10.2.
Ningxia's Zhang Tian listed fourth with 9.8 in the shoot-off.
Southwestern province Sichuan also won its second title as Liu Tianyou was
crowned in the men's 50m rifle 3X40 later on Monday.
The 23-year-old Liu, who took the silver medal of the men's 10mair rifle last
Thursday, scored a total of 1,266.4 points to strike his first title at the
National Games.
Beijing's pair Liu Zhiwei and Shen Yijie split the silver and bronze medals
as Liu Zhiwei scored 1,265.6 points and Shen with 1,265.0.
In another men's event of the day, Gan Lin came back from the fourth place to
win the men's running target.
Gan scored the most 98.9 points in the 10-shot final to claim the first gold
medal for Guangdong province with a total of 678.8 points
Xu Hong from Shanghai took the silver medal with 677.9 points while Gan's
teammate Zhang Weijian ranked third, 677.1 points.
