Fujian defended the women's trampoline team title at the 10th National Games, but its male counterparts suffered a last-minute defeat and gave up the crown to an unexpected Shanxi team.

China's trampoline power Fujian was widely expected to bag boththe men's and women's team golds, as it fields the strongest men and women players and the multi gold-winning Chinese squad at the Eindhoven world trampoline championships were largely made up of Fujian players.

The Fujian women's team, spearheaded by Athens Olympics bronze medallist Huang Shanshan, bounced to victory without doubt with a total of 144.8 points, beating host Jiangsu to second at 144.35 points.

19-year-old Huang, also a member in the gold winning Chinese women team in Eindhoven, took to the field as the last player and added a good ending chapter to her team's performance, scoring 39.80 points with a difficulty of 14.0, the highest among her peers.

But her male counterpart Ye Shuai, who was also in the gold winning Chinese men's team in Eindhoven, crashed his team's gold hope when he, who was the last male player in the field, fell on the side pads and scored only 2.25 points.

Despite Ye's teammates Que Zhicheng and Liu Qipeng's high scores, at 40.60 and 41.65, Fujian men's team fell to the last place from first after Ye's routine.

Another pre-competition favorite Jiangsu ended with a silver thanks to Fujian men's failure. And Shanghai took the bronze.

"We are an good team but not the best, " said head of the Shanxi squad Cai Guangliang, who admitted the victory came somewhat unexpected.

Mu Yongfeng, a leading player in the Shanxi men's team, said they had stable exhibitions and also a little bit good luck.
