Qian Jialin of Shanghai stunned national record holder Yu Hui of Shandong to
claim the women's individual archery title at the National Games in
Nanjing on Wednesday.
Qian scored 110 points from 12 arrows to topple veteran Yu Hui with 102
points. Yu holds the national record of 117 points in thefinal.
Olymipic silver medalist He Yin defeated Guo Dan of Liaoning 108-101 to take
the bronze.
At the age of 17, Qian showed incredible calmness during the breath-taking
competition. She ousted Olympic silver medalist He Yin in the semi-final through
three extra shots after a tie from the regular 12 arrows.
"I didn't have much pressure and tried my best during the match.I was
undaunted and that helped me a lot," said a smiling Qian, a member of the
Chinese national archery team.
As for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Qian cherished the hope by saying that
"2008 is my aim but I have to concentrate for a steady improvement step by step
at the moment. It's too early to talk about that."
