Shandong entered the final of men's soccer at the 10th National Games on
Wednesday after edging champion defender Liaoning 2-1 in a semifinal.
The two teams had equal shares of attacks and ball control in the game but
Liaoning scored first. In the 14th minute, forward Lu Jianjun attained a goal in
a scramble, helping Liaoning gain the upper hand.
Shandong equalized the score in the 52nd minute with a penalty kick Wang
Yongbo.
Substituted Lu Zheng's header in the 63rd minute sealed Shandong's victory.
Shandong coach Yin Tiesheng said after the match his players were reserved in
the first half as they never met such strong opponent as Liaoning in previous
matches.
"I told them in the break to maintain confidence and patience. It worked and
we soon scored in the second half," he noted.
Yin, who led the Shandong squad to the top podium in the eighth National
Games, said,"We have confidence to win the title again."
