Chao Yingying cleared 4.40 meters to win the women's pole vault title at the
10th National Games Thursday evening.
Chao, who secured her winning status in her second attempt, beat Yang Ying of
Guangdong to the second place.
"I did really well in the second attempt, which helped me establish the
leading position, I attempted to clear the height, but failed. Anyway, I am
happy to win the gold for my team tonight," said Chao.
Yang, who cleared the same height in the competition, had to contend with the
silver as she only succeeded in the fourth vault.
"We are at the same level, but she put herself in form earlier then me, I
should do better, but I am still satisfied with the result tonight. "
Gao Shuying, fifth placer in the world championships in Helsinki last August,
won the bronze for Shanghai at 4.30.
