Olympic finalist Wang eliminated from canoeing

Wang Bing, Athens Olympics canoeing finalist in the men's C1 500m, stumbled in the semifinal of the men's C1 1000m here at China's National Games on Thursday.

The 27-year-old Wang from Liaoning went to the final of the men's C1 500m at the Athens Olympic Games, finishing in one miniute 49.903, the best ever Olympic result for Chinese men's singles canoe.

In the men's C1 1000m of the National Games competition on Thursday, the champion in the men's C2 500m and 1000m at Busan Asiad came out ninth in the semifinal, losing a chance in the final.

"I'm used to shorter distance,"Wang said, "I will try to go to the final in the men's C1 500m tomorrow."

Zhang Qiguang from Guangdong, Xie Weiyong from Chongqing, Gong Zheng from Shannxi, veteran Chen Zhongyun from Sichuan, Fujian's Huang Shaokun and Ma Xiaojie from Beijing booked the final ticketsin the event.

Semifinals for six events were slated for Thursday.

In the men's C2 1000m, Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Anhui, Zhejiang and Liaoning took the final berths.

For the men's K1 1000m, Henan's Zhou Jichang and Song Zhongbo, Fujian's Huang Zhipeng, Zhang Tiequan from Chinese Army, Hebei's Wang Xinbao, and Gansu's He Yabin went to the final.

The final berths in the men's K2 1000m went to Shanghai, Guangdong, Beijing, Fujian, Henan and Hunan.

Anhui, Gansu, Guangdong advanced to the final of the men's K4 1000m.

And in the last semifinal of the women's K4 500m, Yunnan, Jiangxi and Shanghai went through to the final.
