Shandong claimed its third cycling gold after Li Fuyu crowned in the men's
184-kilometer individual road race at the 10th National Games on Thursday.
Li took the gold, while Zheng Xiaohai of Beijing won the silver.The bronze
medal went to Wong Kam Po of Hong Kong.
Li explained for his victory, saying "I know Wong is good at speeding in the
last stage, so I tried my best to extend the lead at the first two laps. The
strategy worked well."
Defending champion Wong demonstrated his talents of sprinting at the last 10
kilometers, beating five other cyclists to take the bronze.
"I did not felt too much pressure before the race, even there are many people
who hoped that I could win the second gold for Hong Kong," said Wong who the
golds at both eighth and ninth Games in 1997 and 2001 respectively.
"I tried my best, so I have no regret. I am happy to win the bronze for Hong
Kong," added the Hong Kong cyclist.
Li Yan awarded Shandong its second cycling gold, winning the women's
individual point race four days ago, while Yue Cong contributed the first,
triumphing in the women's Bike Moto Cross (BMX) last Tuesday.
