Ni Fenghan claimed Liaoning's second cycling gold after crowning the women's
104- kilometer individual road race at the 10th National Games in Nanjing , East
China on Friday. Ni took the gold, while Li Meifang of host Jiangsu won the
silver. The bronze medal went to Zhao Na of Liaoning. Racing in the heavy
rain, Ni followed veteran Li of Jiangsu from the very beginning, and made the
final sprint to pass the local favorite at the last 12 kilometer to break the
finish line. "It was really hard to make a better result in this kind of
weather, and everyone who finished the race is the winner," said Ni. Ni was
too exhausted after the race, and had to be carried out of the podium by
teammates after the awarding ceremony. The women's road race featured 64
cyclists, of whom only 46 finished the line. Olympic bronze medalist Jiang
Cuihua won Liaoning its first gold after winning the women's 500-meter time
trial last Tuesday.
