Sun Peng, the second seed, won the tennis men's singles title at the 10th National Games, beating Zeng Shaoxuan 6-2, 6-3 in Nanjing , East China Friday.
This is the only gold medal taken by the hot favorite Tianjin team at the quadrennial event.
Sun lost to Zeng of Jiangsu 7-5, 6-4 at the first match of men' s team final last Tuesday. Jiangsu won the team championship.
In today's revenge, Sun kept ahead through the first set, saving all his games and breaking two serves.
The two players began to break each other's serve from the fourth game of the second set before Sun finally managed to save his game to close the set at 6-3.
Zeng, who clinched men's doubles gold on Thursday, attributed his failure to his rival's excellent performance.
"He has been launching powerful hits to give me no chance," said the third seed.
Sun told the press that he was playing under great pressure as he was the last hope for Tianjin team's gold medal dream.
"I played to my highest level," Sun said.
In another match Friday, Wang Yu of Tianjin won the bronze medal after beating Zhu Benqiang from Hubei 6-2, 2-1 with Zhu's withdrawal.
