Traveled to France to study economics

Started his first novel, "Mie Wang" ("Destruction"), in France and then returned to Shanghai

Finished novels and essays including "The Love Trilogy: Fog, Rain, Lightning" (1931-35) and "The Torrent Trilogy: Family, Spring, Autumn" (1933-40)

Met Xiao Shan who later became his wife

Traveled around China during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression; finished novels "Qiyuan" ("Garden of Repose") (1944), "Disi Bingshi" ("Ward Four") (1945), and "Han Ye" ("Cold Nights") (1946)

Elected vice chairman of the Shanghai Federation of Literature and Art Circles

The 10-volume series, "The Selected Works of Ba Jin," published by People's Literature Publishing House

Started to translate the memoirs of Russian revolutionary Alexander Herzen, "My Past and Thoughts"
